Dry Skin

Are you one of the many that suffers from dry skin, the itchy tight, flaky, prickly condition? Having dry skin can make you crazy if there were no such thing as moisturizers to help sooth the ravaged beast. There is nothing worse when you put on a pair of shorts or a swim suit and your legs look ashy. Ashy dry skin is very unattractive and can be very embarrassing. Everyone has experienced dry skin to one degree or another; but how badly you have dry skin varies from person to person.

More Than Meets the Eye

Dry skin is not always just dry skin; it can be a sign of something far more sinister depending on what you consider dry skin. For example, if your skin is red, cracking, itchy, and even painful; that is not just typical dryness. If you are experiencing these types of symptoms you may have eczema, or psoriasis.

Eczema is the milder of the two, but we would not down play how miserable someone can be when they experience eczemas’ wrath. There are even varying degrees within the realm of eczema, but we will talk more on that in another section on this site.

Psoriasis is know also as severe dry skin but is very red and seems to crack more easily; and if that wasn’t bad enough is also gives a burning or stinging sensation.  It is very sad to have this condition, but the good news is it can be controlled. Natural skin care products can be effective for mild cases, otherwise you may need medical attention.

Mild Dry Skin

Now, if you are not experiencing the more severe dry skin conditions you probably just need to apply lotion more liberally, more often to sooth your dry skin. How many times do we look in the magazine, see the commercials on TV, and wonder “What will work for me?” or “Is this a joke, or can this product really perform like it says it will?” or “For that amount of money it better be liquid gold!” In the end we seem to be even more confused than when we started in our quest for the perfect dry skin solution.

Different Skin Types

Yes, it can be frustrating to find that perfect solution to your dry skin. However, everyone is different, everyone has a different skin type, some others have skin allergies, and other people have very sensitive skin. What will work for one person may not work for you, so sometimes it is just trial and error that helps you realize what works for you. Common sense goes along ways when searching for a product on dry skin. For example, if you know you have sensitive skin, don’t go buy products with perfume in them. Be mindful that there is no such thing as an overnight cure for dry skin, so don’t pay a premium for anything that claims to tell you otherwise. All of those expensive facial scrubs are not going to work miracles overnight, but they can offer results over time.

Dry skin is a condition that you need to constantly be watching and using moisturizers to keep under control. So, make sure after you take that shower, go to the beach, and be sure to use a good moisturizer to help prevent ashy dry skin.
