Natural Is Not Always Better – The Truth Behind Natural Skin Care Products
Today it seems everyone is talking about natural skin care products, and instinctively they believe natural must be better. As a matter of fact, we seem to be in the middle of a “natural” revolution – we look for organic products, and environmentally friendly cleaners. However, before you get caught up in the craze and hype, there are a few things to know.
What Is “Natural”
The concepts behind natural skin care are obvious – use products right from nature, and they will be the most beneficial for your skin. The reality, however, is mixed. There are some great natural products – such as oatmeal, cucumber, and lemon juice that when used properly are great for your skin. You can find these ingredients in many professional products as well as natural skin care products.
The drawback behind the natural skin care is that it is often unregulated. Just like dietary supplements, manufacturers really do not have any guidelines to follow. What this means is people can go grab the next “miracle” plant from the amazon, and place it into cleansers with very little or no testing. This may cause allergic reactions for people with sensitive skin, and can actually damage skin lesions caused by acne, psoriasis, and eczema.
The Best Natural Products are Eaten
If you believe the only way to take care of your skin is by applying items to its surface, then you will be very interested to know that what you eat and drink is extremely important for your skin care.
You should drink 64oz of water, spaced throughout the day. Don’t just drink some in the morning, and then forget about it until late at night. Avoid drinks with caffeine, as well as excessive alcohol.
What you eat also matters. Avoid junk food, and all cooked oils. You should have at least one serving of raw fruits or vegetables each day, as certain beneficial bacteria which are beneficial to your body (and skin) are killed during the cooking process.
